We stayed at the Holiday Inn because the price was right and location was good. Very close to Broadway as well as close to a subway stop and drug store. Upon checking in, which was easy, our room was ready (early), and we were followed by the housekeeping supervisor who checked the room to make sure that it was clean. The room itself was okay, and large by New York standards. However, the air conditioning didn't work well, and after walking around the hot city, we only wanted a cold room- never happend. The elevators were always packed with other travelers, and we ended up having to walk down creepy stairwells. It cost * dollars for them to hold our bags, and after I expressed my being upset at this as well as the elevator situation, the bellman was extremely rude to me and flatly told me that it wasn't his problem (which is also what the Manager said as well).

I guess it's typical for NYC, but the staffs at this hotel are particularly impolite. They will be nice to you when they know they will be asking money from you, and once they know you won't pay more/checked out they treat you like dirt. Literally. I actually got chased out of the hotel right after I checked out. Oh and don't expect "hi, bye, have a good day". Also, there's a rat in the room the last night that we stayed there but we were too busy packing for an early flight so we didn't do anything about it. I'll leave it to you to judge about cleanliness. I'd recommend for backpackers, students looking for someplace decent and cheap, or large family on vacation, but not for you if you're looking to relax and be treated nicely on your vacation.

It isn't swanky or frilly, but it's very well kept, very clean, and just very nice in general. A great location if you want to be close to, but not in the middle of, everything within the theater district. You can avoid the chaos of Times Square, yet you're still close to it and the theaters, Central Park, Lincoln Center, endless great restaurants, and more. Bike Rentals Central Park is right in between the hotel and the park and was perfect for picking up and dropping off our bike rentals. Lots of great restaurants, delis and cafes within walking distance. Walgreens is only a block away. Never saw any unsavory characters near the hotel or in the neighborhood. The size of our room with 2-queens was just right for a trip where you don't plan to stay in the room a lot, but where you don't feel cramped when you are there. The spotless white bedspreads attest to the cleanliness of the whole room. Warm, cozy, basic decor. Only complaint was that I couldn't stay connected to the hotel's WiFi for more than a few minutes before my laptop would crash. I figured my laptop was on the fritz but back at home, it's working fine. The computers in the lobby gave me the internet access I needed at * cents/minute. My one hotel restaurant meal, an omlette for breakfast, was very average. The cheese was American and the potatoes were plain, but the service was very friendly and prompt. My sister used the workout room and, again, it wasn't fancy, but it was well supplied and trainers were on hand for any needed assistance. Overall, our hotel stay was excellent and is probably the best value for the Theater District area. I would definitely stay there again.

Great experience! Staff was very friendly and helpful. Room was clean and neat and smelled fine. We had breakfast there and it was good and reasonably priced. We wanted to sight see in the city, so so we checked out, but they kept our bags locked away for the day for a nominal fee ($* per bag I think). Valet parking was great and no problems there. Would definitely go back!
