This was a great hotel to choose for a price conscious stay in Manhattan for a Saturday night. It's near the U.N. which is a quiet place on the weekend, but it's not a long walk to Times Square and all the action. Because this hotel is quieter on the weekend, the front desk staff was wonderful and upgraded us to a penthouse suite that had plenty of room and views of Roosevelt Island and the huge "Pepsi Cola" neon sign in Long Island City along the Queens side of the East River. There is a great indoor pool on the 27th floor and breakfast at the Ambassador Grill was good. This was half the price of a hotel in Times Square for the night and allowed us to show our kids the historic U.N. in the same trip as the Ferris Wheel in Toys R Us in Times Square. Some of the furnishings and decor are a little dated, but it's clean and well-kept and a good value for the $$.

The positive: great sized room, fantastic views - mine had a clear view of the chrystler building, centrally located near restaurants and major attractions.; beautiful swimming pool and fitness center with full service spa. Nice touch.
The bad: if you want a kitchenette, please note that it only comes in rooms with one bed which doesn't work if you have a family (kinda defeats the whole purpose of trying to save on meals)
Next, the housekeeping was horrible. I'm not a world traveler but I thought all hotels came standard with a coffee maker, was shocked that I had to request one. Not only that, every day I had to request that they replenish the supplies and send clean cups. Housekeeping suggested that I rinse my old one out. After she heard an earful, she sent me a clean set.
Also, the housekeeping overall was poor. There were dirty cups left on the tables and debri still on floor when we returned to our room. When I called, I was told that the cups should have been set out. Even so, I would have expected them to at least been placed out of the way and all debri to be picked up.
I will choose to go elsewhere on my next NY trip.

I have stayed at the the Millennium UN Plaza a number of times and have never been
disappointed. The rooms offer a spectacular view. The gym and pool is an added bonus as is the location. The staff is friendly and the restaurant is above average. They charge for in-room pc hook-up and a charge pc use in the internet cafe. One of the only hotels, world-wide, that does so.

My two young daughters and I stayed here for two nights (Dec 25 and 26, 2009) just to have some fun in the city before going to our final NJ destination. The hotel is directly across the street from the UN, and our room had a nice view of the East River and of the Empire State Building. While we were not able to use it because of a broken pump (which happens with any pool, so it's not the hotel's fault), they have a great pool in the spa/fitness area. We also didn't use the restaurant, but the menu looked good, and they served late.
The room was a nice size (about the same as most hotel rooms across the US) which was a nice surprise since NYC hotel rooms are usually very small. The decor was modern and comfortable. The staff was very nice, too.
The only drawback was that this hotel is not near a subway stop. This was easily gotten around using cabs, with a trip to 5th Avenue/Times Square being about $* with tip. Not bad. An average adult would have no trouble with the walk from the hotel to the subway stop, though, which is on 4th Ave.
I recommend this hotel very highly for its room size, staff friendliness, location and super rate.

we have stayed at the un for the past 3yrs. this was the frist time we stayed in the east side
we where on the 38 th.fl. we had great views of the chrysler bld. and the empire state bld. and a view of the east river.the front desk was very helpful as was the all the staff. the subway is only a couple of blocks away. the bus stop is right across the street,at the UN.all within walking distance, i'm all ready planing a girls weekend trip for next spring, can't wait.i will be staying at the un. for the price you and the views this is the only hotel for me,as i have stayed at other hotels in ny before finding this one.the rooms are large for hotel rooms ifor ny hotels. i can only say that this hotel is the only hotel for me when i go to ny,in which we go a couple times a year.
